KEY CONVENTIONS

After producing 3 analyses of existing magazines, I found key conventions which could be seen in all 3 magazines. They all included conspicuous colours and text; this is very effective in enticing readers. The mast head has the same font and colour (large, easy to read font) and it is always situated in the top, so it’s the first thing the reader reads. The readers knows that the mast head will be there, so it isn't always necessarily to have it completely shown, it sometimes partially covered, this won’t have an effect on not knowing what the magazine name is because it allowed to cover partially of the master head because it an established magazine. The magazine assumes that most people already know what the name of the magazine by just looking at it. Kerrang magazines have similar layouts of their magazine

The artists on the cover are usually mid shot as it provides emphasis on the artist. The artist on front cover is usually a notable person, hence why it is on the front cover so it can intrigue readers. Readers usually buy the magazine because of who is on the front cover. The front cover is very crucial in attracting customers as customers tend to judge magazines by the front cover, so creating an effective front cover is ever so important as it needs to appeal customers then the rest of the pages need to be excellent to make the customer satisfied so the customers become loyal customers.

The text type is usually the same for each issue as this keeps their brand consistent so customers can be able to identify it. The text type tends to fit in with the theme of the magazine; for example Kerrang, the font has scratch like marks on it which is very in theme with rock culture as its stereotype is dark and dangerous.
